07/02/2024

TPE in partnership with AWEX, hub. Brussels and FIT held the Annual Conference entitled “Map to Global Gateway for Exporting Small and Medium Enterprises” in Brussels on 7th February 2024. The objective of the conference was to provide information to Trade Promotion Organisations to help agencies support their exporting companies, navigating through the Global Gateway Strategy.

The Global Gateway is the EU’s contribution to narrowing the global investment gap worldwide. It is in line with the commitment of the G7 leaders from June 2021 to launch a values-driven, high-standard and transparent infrastructure partnership to meet global infrastructure development needs.

Conference Highlights:

  • Informative sessions on Global Gateway, including strategy, flagship projects, decision-making, and funding details.
  • Panel discussion: ‘Experiences shared, lessons learned – Tales and Tips from Global Gateway Practitioners.’
  • Panel discussion: ‘SMEs in focus: Crafting Strategies for Success in Global Gateway.

The Directorate General for International Partnership (DG INTPA) is responsible for the Global Gateway Strategy. This strategy changes from the previous EU Development policy, in the sense that the European Commission wants to better integrate the European Private Sector in this strategy. This explains for example the creation of the Business Advisory Group of Global Gateway, of which Trade Promotion Europe is a member.

The inaugural milestone of the Global Gateway was the Africa-Europe Investment Package with approximately €150 billion of investment dedicated to bolstering cooperation with African partners. Implementation of Global Gateway has also commenced in Asia and the Pacific and in Latin America and the Caribbean.
